The Greening Plan

The Strategic Greening Plan was first conceived by the UdG in 1988 as the most suitable tool for sustainably managing the environmental resources in each of the University’s spaces, and for promoting respectful attitudes towards the environment in its different spheres. The task of designing the Plan fell to the Institute of the Environment, which consequently specified what are today its objectives and sub-objectives. Nowadays, the management of the UdG’s Greening Plan is the responsibility of the Area of Sustainability.


  1. To incorporate objectives and specify environmental improvement and sustainability promotion actionsin all the UdG’s areas of influence and action.
  2. To place the UdG in a leading position within the framework of environmentally sensitive universities.


  1. To introduce environmentally correct habits into all the areas of everyday life at the UdG.
  2. To establish mechanisms to monitor and continuously improve the environmental quality of the campus.
  3. To introduce habits and environmental contents into the curricula, teaching and education for research.
  4. To actively take part in the environmental improvement of the city within the framework of strategic environmental planing (City Plan, Agenda 21).
  5. To set itself up as an entity that promotes environmental improvement in all the territories in which the UdG undertakes actions.

Strategic Lines

  1. Mobility: To ensure a progressive decrease in the use of private motorised vehicles, encouraging mobility with more energetically and environmentally efficient means of transport, such as walking, going by bicycle or public transport, or in a shared car
  2. Organisation and adaptation of spaces: To enable the different spaces of the campus to be adapted to everyday needs, and to incorporate environmental, ecological and landscape criteria in the urban design and management of these spaces.
  3. Waste management: To generate an internal waste prevention policy based on the three Rs principle and its hierarchy: to reduce, reuse and recycle.
  4. Optimisation of resources: To establish general active and passive measures to achieve maximum efficiency in energy consumption, the use of water and materials in construction, and in acquiring products and services in the university community.
  5. Education for sustainability: To introduce environmental content to increase understanding of the environment and of the possible repercussions of professional activity, and to develop, coordinate and encourage environmental research and greening.
  6. Environmental communication: To develop and promote activities and actions directed at informing and raising awareness among the university community.
