The Government of Catalonia is promoting a new policy that positions the Catalan industry sector as the backbone of the economic future of our country, as set out in its programme "The industrial Catalonia, a shared objective".

Catalonia has a strong industrial tradition and a lot of effort is currently being made to foster an industrial culture linked to a culture of enterprise, quality, innovation and social responsibility. Catalonia is currently classed as a medium innovation follower according to the Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2012 from the European Commission, and the goal for the 2014-2020 period is to achieve the category of innovation leader. The Europe 2020 strategy wants to put industry and innovation at the heart of the model for growth.

Our country has companies in different sectors of industry. At present, the chemical, motor and energy sectors account for more than 10% of overall turnover. In all areas, however, there are companies with export levels accounting for more than 30% of turnover. Record overall export figures are expected for 2014.
