Gender equality

In 2005, within the context of the LOMLOU (2007), and with the political conviction of directing it from the Government of Catalonia, the Commission took on the role of providing universities with guidelines, follow-up and accompaniment in the process of implanting the equal opportunity plans of the Catalan universities and the CERCA centres.

The General Assembly of CRUE, held on 9 May 2017, approved the creation of the Gender Politics Working Group at the proposal of CRUE’S Extended Permanent Committee. The objective of this Working Group is to facilitate the development of gender policies at the Universities aimed at integrating the gender perspective into university teaching, research and management, and to eliminate existing gender inequalities.

The University of Girona is a member of the “NETWORK OF GENDER EQUALITY UNITS FOR UNIVERSITY EXCELLENCE” (RUIGEU) launched at the “3rd Meeting of the Equality Units and Offices of Spanish Universities” held within the framework of the International Conference on Equality Policy in the Academic Sphere. (21 November 2009).

As stated in the document drawn up for this Network in 2013, the Gender Equality Working Party of the Vives Network (constituted on 2 December 2013) was created with the goal of being a meeting point and a space for exchanging experiences to collaboratively strengthen the development of equality policies at universities, with a social reach.

Created in 2016, this is a consultative, plural, autonomous body for the municipal participation of all the groups and entities for gender equality among women in Girona that wish to get involved. This board absorbs and closes the activity carried out by the City and Equality Commission (2000-2015), which the University of Girona also took part in.
