Academic information

What is the purpose of external placements?

Work placements should serve to:

  • Develop the specific competences of the profession, as described in the degrees.
  • Give students experience of real professional scenarios and increase their chances of success in entering the job market.
  • Recognise their aptitudes, attitudes, personal competences and training needs, and analyse their strong and weak points.
  • Compare the academic learning acquired and the real situations that exist in the professional world, so that the student is able to understand the meaning of the various disciplines that make up their studies.
  • Reflect on what each student has done and learned during the placement.

In bachelor's degrees, the curricular placements are subjects, therefore they have to be planned and published like any other subject, enrolled on prior to carrying out the activity and marked in a way analogous to that established for the rest of subjects, whenever this is possible, with due regard for article 5.

External academic placement regulations for bachelor's and master's degrees

Cultural Communication

The external placements are optional and consist of 12 credits. They offer students a series of institutions and companies in the communication and cultural industries to choose from, allowing different interests and skill sets of students interested in this first work experience to be satisfied. Placements with companies constitute a special learning process in the sense that the agents of this process differ in part from the rest of the modules. For external placements, the agents participating in the process are: 1) the student, who is coming into contact with the professional world linked to their academic education for the first time; 2) the academic tutor, a teacher of the degree responsible for the placement taking place; and 3) the tutor offered by the institution or company hosting the placement student.

Geography in Town and Country Planning and Environmental Management

The external placements are compulsory and consist of 12 credits. The objective is to apply in the field the theoretical and methodological knowledge acquired during the degree. To carry out a project in a company or public institution where the student, guided by a tutor, applies the knowledge to one or more real cases. The relationship between student, tutor and company is formalised through a “placement follow-up record” specifying the time for carrying out the tasks, the competences students will acquire and the degree of competence attained.

History

The external placements are compulsory and consist of 6 credits. One basic objective is to give students a taste of the professional environments where tasks are carried out relating to historical heritage preservation, research on said heritage and the dissemination and management of historical knowledge. The placements also aim to promote the projection of the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired over the course of the degree programme, 
Students can carry out their placements at different types of public institutions and some private companies and institutions with which agreements have been established. They will also have the option of joining research groups or some of the Chairs at the UdG.

Catalan Language and Literature

The external placements are optional and consist of 6 credits.

Spanish Language and Literature

The external placements are optional and consist of 6 credits.

Research in Humanities

The Master's degree offers students the opportunity to acquire 6 credits on a Research Placement, working with one of these research groups which are recognised by the UdG:

  • Archaeology and Prehistory
  • Philosophy
  • Literary Heritage Research Group
  • Cultural Studies Research Group
  • History of Modern Art
  • History of Language and Normative Language
  • History of Rural Societies (mediaeval, modern and contemporary)
  • History, Memory, Identities
  • Contemporary literature, literary theory and comparative literature
  • Literature of the Modern Age
  • Spanish Literature
  • Mediaeval Literature
  • Theories of Contemporary Art

Teaching Spanish and Catalan as Second Languages

The external placements, which consist of 6 credits, are carried out at Spanish or Catalan education centres, depending on the specialisation, or in research groups where the research is focused on analysing these languages, but which also take into account other languages and general questions relating to linguistics.ccount.

The master's degree offers students the possibility of carrying out a placement at foreign universities and Instituto Cervantes centres, and applying for an Erasmus Placement grant.
