Faculty of Arts

Welcome

The Faculty of Arts has been located in the renovated building of the former Sant Domènec convent since the 1993-1994 academic year. The Faculty faces the present and immediate future with a clear commitment to the legacy of the arts, communication, heritage management and the recovery of historical memory. Our goal is to foster critical thought, commitment to innovation in teaching, the generation of competitive research and the dissemination of knowledge to the different layers of society.

You can access all the information about the seven bachelor's degrees that are taught in our faculty from this platform: Media and Cultural Studies, Philosophy, Geography and Town and Country Planning and Environmental Management, History, History of Art, Catalan Language and Literature, Spanish Language and Literature, and the dual bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Economics.

The Faculty also offers some interesting official master's degrees, such as the Master in Teaching Catalan and Spanish as Second Languages, the Master in Research in Humanities and the Master in Heritage. On this website you will also find information about the different joint masters our teachers take part in. Like every quality university, a third level of studies is offered in the form of the Doctoral Programme in Humanities, Heritage and Cultural Studies. In this Faculty a student can study the three university levels: the bachelor's degree, the master and the doctoral degree.

I would like to address the students of the Faculty. Many of you may have been told that you are swimming against the tide in choosing to study a humanities subject, but I am convinced that you have made an excellent choice. We may be in a moment when we have lost the future as a utopia, but we are in a moment when we cannot waste any time. We no longer need to speak in a laconic way about our studies promoting the uselessness of what is useless, nor of non-profit policies as opposed to those with profits. Humanistic activities are a fundamental tool for rethinking our world and promoting the different singularities that a diverse and complex environment provides us with.

As Dean of the Faculty of Arts I am aware that we are living in complicated times. We are in a moment when many things are being finished, but we are also in a time of ongoing new challenges, which bring to the fore new ways to affirm equality, diversity and gender policies. Let's make the most of the moment; there is no knowledge without curiosity.
