Master in Environmental Change and Socio-Ecological Transition

#MTSocioEco

The current social-economic-development model has led to drastic ecological consequences, such as the climatic emergency and the exhaustion and deterioration of ecosystems and basic resources for life, which in turn are inevitably causing serious economic and social effects on the whole of the society. Hence the imperative and urgent need here for a ground-breaking change that enables progress towards a genuinely socio-ecological transition that respects the environment and society.

The necessary strategies and measures for promoting this socio-ecological transition need to be supported with a holistic vision, maintained through the adoption of new technologies and procedures with less impact and consumption of resources; in a new greener, circular and collaborative economy; and also, very importantly, in new social-governance and innovation structures that promote equality and social justice. Waste and energy management, sustainable mobility, preservation and restoration of ecosystems and biodiversity, maintenance of agricultural spaces and alimentary sovereignty, these are areas requiring appropriate management in this process of socio-ecological transition and where correct decisions in the actions carried on local and regional levels are playing an essential role.
