External placements

Curricular and extracurricular placements

Curricular placements are those that are configured as academic activities within the curriculum and entail passing the requirements to obtain a degree, in accordance with the provisions laid out in the corresponding curriculum. Students must have enrolled on their subject before they can do their curricular practicals.

Extracurricular practicals are the ones that can be done voluntarily during the academic year. While they serve the same purpose as curricular practicals, they are not part of the curriculum.However, they are envisaged in the European Diploma Supplement (EDS).

Practicals and Additional Practicals

  
12 credits (OB) + 6 credits (OP)

Curricular placements are taught in the fourth year of the Bachelor's Degree in Advertising and Public Relations. These studies offer compulsory subjects Placements (12 credits) and optional subjects Additional Placements (6 credits).

  • Placements: 275-hour placements that have to be carried out during the academic year.
  • Additional Placements: 140-hour optional subject aimed at extending the total number of hours of the Placements subject to 415 hours (275 hr + 140 hr) .

Practicum and Additional practicals

Curricular practicals are taught in the fourth year of the Bachelor's degree in Tourism. These studies offer compulsory subjects Practicum (12 credits) and optional subjects Additional practical classes (6 credits).

  • Practicum: minimum stay of 275 hours during the academic year. Preferably May and June.
  • Additional practicals: this subject is aimed at extending the curricular hours of the Practicum to a total of 415 hours (275 hr + 140 hr).

Placements – Master's Degree in Tourism Planning and Management

  
6 credits

Compulsory subject of 150 hours in a company or public institution in the national or international area. They can be completed during the academic course. Placements are linked to destination management, creating tourist products, and hotel consultancy of management. On the student’s request, placements can be linked to the master's degree dissertation.

Placements – Master’s Degree in Cultural Tourism

  
6 credits

Compulsory subject of 150 hours in a company or public institution in the national or international area. These can be carried out throughout the academic year, preferably starting from April, once the classes finished. The placements are linked to gastronomic tourism, cultural and management organisations and tourist promotion. On the student’s request, placements can be linked to the master's degree dissertation.

INFORMATION

Application period

It can be requested every academic yea :  from 17 to 31 October and from 15 to 28 February 2023.

Requirements:

Proving professional work experience of a complete  minimum of a year in time or its equivalent in the case of part-time work.

Documentation to submit:

It is explained in the same application that you have to submit during the procedure for your online dossier called "Application to the administration", "Practicals” subprocedure. Application for recognition of professional experience as external curricular practicals.

Decision and notification:

Decisions are communicated via notification. Students will receive an email through "La meva UdG" and they must accept the notification to find out whether the decision is positive or negative. You will also find the decision in the completed procedures tab from your online dossier’s procedures section.

Students in the Faculty of Tourism have the chance to complete voluntary placements (extracurricular) throughout their studies. The maximum duration of the academic course is 750 hours. To guarantee education quality, placements are always validated by a professor in the Faculty before processing the agreement.

Students can opt to do their curricular and extracurricular placements during the same academic year as long as the total of both placements does not exceed 750 hours.
For both curricular and extracurricular placements, you need to enrol using the University of Girona company placement platform.

The placement period is formalised through a cooperation agreement. The student remains covered by school insurance.

Extracurricular placements will be subject to €130 of administrative management fees to be borne by the company. Non-profit organisations and public institutions are excluded.
