Research Group in Culture, Education and Human Development

Presentation

Research Group in Culture, Education and Human Development (GRHCS047).

The research group has established three analysis focuses for guiding the current lines of research, as a result of the projects conducted over the last few years. In first place, analyses and interventions towards the establishment of educational continuities between the schools and the students’ life and community contexts. Here the emphasis is put on their experiences and interests, as well as the environment’s opportunities and resources, so it is important for teacher training to be conceived as a mediated and mediating framework. In second place, the importance of physical activities and sport in practice and the context of socialisation, exploring, in particular, the process of educational help in those contexts. Finally, in third place, the confirmation of the recognition and establishment of mutual-trust relations in contexts of cultural and linguistic diversity for the purposes of encouraging significant and meaningful processes that facilitate involvement, a sense of belonging and learning among students.

Goals :

  • To analyse, design, implement and assess educational and community programmes for the purposes of promoting contextualisation and customisation.
  • To help to improve teacher training, putting the emphasis on collaboration and mutual trust between school stakeholders and families, for the sake of bringing about a sense of belonging and optimum academic performance among students.
  • To generate knowledge towards educational practicals in multilingual and culturally diverse contexts.
  • To explore psychological mechanisms in relation to identity construction.
  • To study and analyse the processes of teaching and learning in the areas of the Physical Education and Sport.
  • To analyse epistemic vigilance, trust, the social hierarchy and reasoning among pre-school children, as well as the underlying bases of collaborative learning.
  •  To analyse and encourage educational and community processes of social change towards sustainability.
