Learning in the clinical environment

Learning in the clinical environment is based on the conviction that students need to acquire sound professional skills during the six years of the degree in Medicine.For this reason, by ensuring the students acquire the required skills and by working on their knowledge, abilities and attitudes, this methodology aims to promote the following outcomes:

• The integration of the knowledge acquired with the associated clinical techniques.
• Adaptation to the context in which these clinical techniques are applied.
• The agile use of information.
• Team work.
• Knowledge of different health systems.
• Knowledge of Dr-patient relationships.

This specific learning is delivered in the Hospital Universitari de Girona by Dr. Josep Trueta, as well as in the provincial hospitals and the network of public health and primary healthcare centres in Girona and neighbouring provinces.Immersion in the clinical environment becomes increasingly important as the students progress through the course.

University master’s degrees

Doctorate degree programmes

The doctoral studies are aimed at providing students with advanced training in research techniques and include the preparation and presentation of a doctoral thesis, consisting of original research work.To join a doctoral programme you need to have a minimum of between 60 and 120 ECTS credits at official university master's degree level or equivalent.

The academic calendar marks the beginning and end of classes, non-teaching days, holidays, exam periods, and so on.The administrative calendar marks the periods to make the different formalities administrative.

Students have to gain a series of credits, as part of their studies, which correspond to internships in companies or institutions relating to the bachelor’s degree they are studying.The teaching load is determined in accordance with the curriculum.

To obtain the degree, students have to complete a bachelor's thesis (TFG) which serves to assess the general skills they have acquired over the course of the degree programme and offers a summary of the skills and knowledge they have acquired.The teaching load of the thesis depends on the curriculum of the degree.

Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.

They also have access to grants for placements at universities in Spain and on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.
