Chair of didactics of mathematics M. Antònia Canals

GAMAR

Materials and Research Centre for Mathematics in Schools

GAMAR is a documentation and training centre focused on mathematics education; it is part of the M. Antònia Canals Chair of Mathematics Education. It was created in 2001 by M. Antònia Canals, after she was awarded the Jaume Vicens Vives Prize for University Teaching by the Government of Catalonia.

From its beginnings, GAMAR was recognised within other research structures of the University of Girona and became a platform for reflection, training and discovery of materials to improve early childhood and primary school mathematics education.

In addition to the Annual Series of Training Activities aimed at teachers, GAMAR has an arranged schedule for those interested to visit freely to discover the material; take guided in-depth tours; receive teaching and organisational advice from groups of primary-school teachers and/or management teams; browse the materials online through its website; or visit temporary exhibitions. These activities are carried out by the head teacher at GAMAR, Ester Bosch, who allocates half of her time as a teacher in the Catalan Ministry of Education to these activities.
