The project launches the pilot project for the mobile abattoir, serving central Catalonia to respond to the needs of livestock farmers who have seen how small capacity abattoirs have been closing down, and to address stocks of sheep and goats that were served by larger abattoirs mainly for slaughtering pigs. This new mobile unit must improve the quality of meat and animal welfare by doing away with journeys on board vehicles, as well as quality of life of farmers and workers, optimising the service and recovering the time spent getting to and from abattoirs. Finally, the solution fosters a shorter circuit and the direct sale of local meat, improving sustainability and the economy a sector working to maintain the landscape and the essence of rural territories.
Project funded through Operation 16.01.01 (Cooperation for innovation) through the Programme for Rural Development in Catalonia 2014-2022.
