Master in Intelligent Robotic Systems (MIRS)

Frequently asked questions

Eligibility criteria

Yes, wherever you are from, you can apply to the programme. Bear in mind, however, that we do not have up-to-date information about visa regulations, since they depend on each country and can vary over time.

The minimum level required for English is the CEFR B2.

We accept tests such as the IELTS certificate (applicants have to obtain an overall mark of 6.5), Cambridge (FCE – BEC Vantage – ICFE Vantage), TOEFL IBT (72 to 94 points), TOEIC, Aptis B2, PTE General Level 3, Oxford Test of English and LinguaSkill. Send us an email if you have another test of English.

Applicants with marks below the minimum requirement will not be considered for selection. We have to be strict on this point, because English is the only language of instruction for this master’s course.

We do not accept the TOEFL Home Edition or Duolingo English Test.

Yes, self-funded students are welcome on this programme. Half of the fees must be paid in first year and the other half during the second year. If you are applying to other funding sources and need any documents from us, do not hesitate to contact us.

The MIRS is suitable for any holder of a technical engineering degree who has a solid basis in mathematics and computer science. In your bachelor's degree, you should have studied at least one (or more) subjects of Linear Algebra, Advanced Calculation and Statistics.

Take into account that the MIRS programme is very intensive in programming. You need to have mastered Python and be capable of easily converting algorithms into code.

In general terms, the MIRS programme is targeted at people who have been building their career around robotics. It is not for anyone who wants to take a break in their field to explore robotics out of curiosity.

Yes.

Yes. You only need to provide official certification from your original university showing you have completed your bachelor's degree programme. If you are accepted to the MIRS programme, you will have to present your diploma as soon as you receive it.

Applicants must have a university degree that corresponds to at least three years of full-time university studies, with a total of 180 ECTS. Applicants must have completed and been awarded this degree when they enrol on the MIRS programme. The selection will be carried out using the following criteria, with the numeric weight and the evidence of each point indicated:

  • Academic grades

  • Academic and professional experience and suitability for the programme: as demonstrated by the applicant’s CV and the academic area of the bachelor's degree obtained. The CV must allow the applicant’s achievements to be easily verified, for example, through links in relevant publications, previous projects and awards.

  • Motivation: a cover letter of one page should highlight your previous accomplishments relating to MIRS subjects and present strong arguments as to how the MIRS fits in with your planned career. The letter will be evaluated according to your previous experience in robotics and your experience and skills in programming (which are expected to be very high).

  • Interview: in some cases, applicants may be interviewed to assess their knowledge and skills more thoroughly.

Documents required

Your cover letter has to focus on MIRS subjects. It has to highlight your previous accomplishments to do with the robotics field and how they have influenced your decision to do this master.

You can include an explanation of why you want to study it and why we should select you. You can also add extracurricular activities to do with the master that you have not mentioned in your CV.

In addition, you could speak about your future professional goals, your dreams and how you believe that the MIRS will help you to attain them.

The requirement of English is already considered to be met if your bachelor's degree was taught in English. In that case, you only need to attach an official letter from your university certifying this in your application.

The documents that have to be authenticated are the bachelor's degree and the academic records (original and a copy). Once authenticated, the documents have to be translated into Spanish or English by an officially recognised translator in Spain. The translation has to include the contents as well as the stamps of the different institutions.

The document authentication process differs depending on the student’s country of origin.

No, the application is completely online. For the selection, you need to present scanned copies of your documentation. Once accepted on the programme, you will have to bring all the original documentation with you. Take into account that part of the documentation will have to be authenticated and translated in your country before arriving in Girona.

The letter must be no longer than one page.

Yes. If you need to, you can change your application up to the deadline. We will only take the last attached version into account.

Scholarships and grants

If the grant is available (see link), you can apply for it in the master’s application online. Be careful with the deadlines indicated on the page. After the grant deadline has passed, you will still be able to apply to the programme, but only as a self-funded student, without the option of applying for the grant.

New MIRS students who have completed pre-enrolment.

Students that have taken the first year of the master and have a minimum average mark of 6.5.

Each academic year has a different number of grants available. To find out which grants are available for the year concerned, follow this link.

The selection of students is based on several criteria, including their academic grade, their cover letter and the references provided by the candidates.
