University Master's in Medical Image Computing

Learning objectives

The current boom of the artificial intelligence and its application in the medical field, together with the demand and need for professional qualifications that society may look for in future graduates, has been fundamental in establishing the objectives of this Master’s degree in Medical Image Computing (MIC).

The main purpose of the MIC master's degree is to train professionals, responding to current needs in the industry in the area of the analysis and processing of medical imaging and in the new techniques of artificial intelligence (Deep Learning) which are clearly entering this field of application, as well as many others. This master's degree provides, through the training provided, unique knowledge in the field of medical imaging, from its acquisition, to the design and programming of recent techniques to extract image markers, through the use of artificial intelligence and Big Data algorithms that allow images to be automatically analysed.

The generic and specific skills that students must acquire, and on which the training objectives are based, are the following:

  • Acquiring the knowledge and necessary skills to analyse, design and implement image analysis and processing techniques, at a generic level, as well as at the particular level of the medical image.

  • Acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to analyse, design and implement artificial intelligence (Deep Learning) techniques applied to the medical field.

  • Acquiring the skills to apply theoretical knowledge in different practical areas of performance.

  • Acquiring the critical habit of analysis, evaluation of systems and design of projects and experiments related with techniques and methodologies in a specialised area of research and its application and transfer to the industrial environment.

  • Acquiring the skills necessary for oral and written communication, for formulation and troubleshooting and for the planning of processes following academic and professional standards.

  • Acquiring abilities in independent work and leading group work for tasks, as well as facilitating adaptation to different roles and professional situations.

  • Acquiring the skills to interact efficiently in a multicultural and multilingual environment.

To complete all this training and put into practice the knowledge acquired, a final semester master's project will be completed that can be carried out in related research centres, hospitals or in companies in the sector, even at an international level.
