Teaching is concentrated in the faculties and schools, and the departments deal with research, which is also conducted by institutes and chairs, at the same time responsible for knowledge promotion.
The group’s main focus is on finding out which elements facilitate the experience of a radical democracy in centres (structured into four fundamental pillars: governance, housing, otherness and ethos) and how this is experienced by the educational community.
The theoretical development of this subject points to the need for the entire educational community, and especially the teaching body, to commit to promoting well-founded democratic practices in a shared theoretical discussion to establish the bases of what democracy is understood to mean.

The Demoskole Research Network is comprised of teachers from the Universities of Girona and Vic who are mainly affiliated with the research groups GRES (Research Groups on Educational and Sociocultural Policies, Programmes and Services) (UdG) and GREUV (Research Group in Education of the University of Vic) (UVic-UCC), and since the academic year 2010-2011 have worked together on topics related to democracy and engagement in the area of education.
