It's useful to know

We recommend that student on the Double Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Science and Physiotherapy have solid training in matters related to the health sciences.Besides being in good physical condition, it is necessary to maintain this over time, have a love of sports, an active personality and a good service attitude.Finally, it is useful to have good knowledge of English and IT skills.

The class timetable is mornings (usually PASS) and afternoons (Physiotherapy).

Learning objectives

The general objectives are as follows:

  • Generating in students the capacity to value the importance of physiotherapy in the context of health.
  • Encouraging analysis of their own motor functions through the practice of physical and sporting activity, and providing elements to analyse and improve the motor functions of others.
  • Provide the scientific basis and related competences to identify, describe, compare and treat changes in health that may respond to physiotherapy and physical activity and sports science.
  • Acquiring competences in the joint use of methods, procedures, models, techniques and actions that, through the application of physical agents, manual techniques and therapeutic exercises, among others, prevent, cure and restore persons affected by functional deficiencies, limitations or changes in physical function and health resulting from an injury, illness, accident or any other cause.
  • Developing in students the skills of planning, developing and evaluating the physical activity and sports programmes in the educational sphere relating to performance, leisure and recreation, and also in prevention and recovery.
  • Providing the students a basis to develop habits of excellence and quality in their professional work.
  • Instilling in students the interest in incorporating the research into the professional practice in a critical, constructive and creative way.

Careers

Holders of a bachelor's degree in Physical Activity and Sports Science can go on to a career in:

  • Healthcare: the prevention and the recovery of health through physical activity and sport, functional rehabilitation; physical activity and sport as a tool of social intervention: working with specific groups (the elderly, people with disabilities, young people at risk of social exclusion).
  • Physical education and sport: in a formal context it is necessary to do the Master's Degree in Compulsory Secondary Education and Upper Secondary Education and Vocational Training, (compulsory and upper secondary school education, training cycles in physical activities and sports, and teaching sport) and in the non-formal setting (sports schools, after school sports clubs).
  • Sports performance: physical training for competitive and amateur sport, sports rehabilitation.
  • Management of sport services in the public or private sphere: facilities, projects, human resources, technical experts.Physical activity and sport for leisure and recreation: adventure sports, sport and tourism.

In the area of physiotherapy the professions open to graduates are extensive and varied:

  • Traumatology, geriatrics, paediatrics, sport injuries, cardiorespiratory complaints, ergonomics, neurology, urogynaecology, rheumatology.
  • Physiotherapists can work independently or be integrated into multidisciplinary teams (in clinics, primary care centres, hospitals).

Placements

Students have to gain a series of credits, as part of their studies, which correspond to internships in companies or institutions relating to the bachelor’s degree they are studying.The teaching load is determined in accordance with the curriculum.

Bachelor's thesis

To obtain the degree, students have to complete a bachelor's thesis (TFG) which serves to assess the general skills they have acquired over the course of the degree programme and offers a summary of the skills and knowledge they have acquired.The teaching load of the thesis depends on the curriculum of the degree.

Mobility

Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.

They also have access to grants for placements at universities in Spain and on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.
