Eurecat Award

Award for the winning team from the Hackathon for the Master's Degree in Data Science at the UdG (2024-2024 academic year)

Call:
https://www.udg.edu/ca/Portals/57/Informacio_computacio/Premi Eurecat del Màster de Ciència de Dades de la UdG.pdf?ver=3FdlHuS0JR0XEIQOxP9uqA%3d%3d
Subject for the Hackathon:
Energy efficiency in Catalonia: how the energy efficiency of buildings interrelates with social, economic, and environmental challenges in Catalonia.
Date and place of the Hackathon:

8-02-2025, assembly hall at the P4, EPS (UdG)

Hackathon winners:

Four teams and a total of 25 students took part. The winning team was called “Donicelas” (Enric Piñera, Mariangel González, Mikhail Evlashkin, Pau Jordi de Jesus Bras, Simon Cerda and Víctor Chura) who answered the question: "Is energy efficiency distributed equally throughout Catalonia?” We suppose that older buildings located in low-income areas tend to have worse qualifications, while urban districts with more economic resources have more efficient buildings. This inequality can have significant implications for social equity and public policies. We therefore wonder:

          • What is the link between the age of buildings and their energy ratings?

          • How does the income level of the different zones affect the energy efficiency of the homes?

          • Do urban areas have greater higher energy efficiency compared to rural areas?

          • How can these data be used to guide subsidy and incentive policies? "
