The Chair's basic goals are:
- Studying and disseminating the role of information and computing in our world.
- Stimulating research and knowledge transfer in the fields of information, computing, data science and artificial intelligence.
- A cultural and scientific revitalisation of bachelor's and master’s degrees in the area of information technology and society in general.
- Promoting discussions on the uses of information for a fairer, more equitable, more transparent and more participatory society.
In the presentation of the strategic plan UdG2030: the sum of intelligences, we can read: "The social context that led to the creation of the UdG and its development has been radically transformed. Globalisation, growth in information, technological changes, environmental challenges and growing mechanisation are symptoms of a new scenario. [...] The Universitat de Girona has decided to pre-empt the events governing our future and focus on the sum of intelligences. Indeed, the guiding thread of learning, science, culture and, in general, the evolution of humanity in the coming years will be determined by the combination of natural intelligence, collective intelligence and artificial intelligence. This synergy or sum of intelligences is therefore a new source of opportunities that the UdG wants to develop for its community, for the region it feels committed to and, above all, for the students experiencing very demanding situations who will have to adapt to knowledge and professions not yet in existence”.
The action we propose from the Chair keeps to the spirit of this strategic plan, where learning, research, transfer of knowledge and social commitment play there a fundamental role. A basic feature of the Chair is its desire for a cross-cutting approach between different areas of knowledge, as information and computing are the basis of numerous fields of knowledge.
