Climent Guitart Chair: Orientation, innovation and competitiveness in coastal tourism

Areas of action

The Chair aims to provide an impetus to the studying, public projection and dissemination of tourist activity and its history. This impetus is meant to be multidisciplinary and the areas of knowledge which the Chair wants to disseminate are: economics, enterprises, geography, culture, society and natural and cultural heritage.

The Chair’s initiatives will focus on four areas:

Organisation of lectures, conferences, seminars and congresses

Annual activities are held for disseminating knowledge of aspects relating to economic and business activity linked to the tourist sector of the Catalan and, above all, Girona coast. The Chair is committed to conveying knowledge to city residents.

Creation of alliances at national and international levels to promote an R&D&I Tourist Network

During its first year of activity, the Chair will focus on building up alliances at national level, to keep continue with forming a group of researchers from several regional areas with shared lines of study. During its second, European-level alliances will be sought out for strengthening the network through experiences and renowned researchers. During its third, the Chair will organise an International Symposium gather knowledge from this network in research, development and tourist innovation.

Promoting research in the region

The Chair will encourage research from young researchers through the creation of prizes for research into tourist activity in the coast. Prizes will be given for research carried out by secondary-education students (Baccalaureate and Intermediate and Upper Vocational Training Cycles) and university bachelor's- and master’s-degree students. A study will be made of the possibility of establishing calls for scholarship applications for research into issues of interest for the sector.

Communication

Creating a webpage, participation in social networks, creating a collection of publications and, more generally, watching over the Chair's corporative image will be some of the most cross-cutting initiatives among all activities carried out in the Chair.
