Climent Guitart Chair: Orientation, innovation and competitiveness in coastal tourism

Presentation

Climent Guitart Chair

The Chair was created in response to the belief in the importance of promoting knowledge transfers and multidisciplinary research in tourist activities, especially along the coast of Girona. The Chair’s creation comes at a difficult economic and social time given the effects of the health pandemic still in progress that has affected the tourist sector so seriously. A new impetus has been launched against those effects, to resume the stable pattern of business and social growth for the future of coastal tourism.

You can find examples of families all along the Girona coast examples who have contributed, through their own efforts, means and love to develop what has currently become the most important economic and business sector in the economy of its counties. Climent Guitart represents this family tradition. The history of the coastal tourist sector and business boost, to focus on a hopeful future for the sector, are the cornerstones to the creation of this Chair. Here the Climent Guitart Foundation and Lloret de Mar City Council come together, recognising through this Chair that the study and transfer of knowledge to the tourist sector, from a multidisciplinary perspective, is indispensable for a region as diverse as Girona.

Chair Climent Guitart: Orientation, innovation and competitiveness in coastal tourism, responds to the European intentions to affirm economic activities based on knowledge of data, digitisation, science-based decision-taking and aligning entrepreneurial results with sustainable development goals.

The Climent Guitart Foundation has always stood out for its special sensitivity for promoting the avant-garde of university research, always backed by Lloret de Mar City Council. The Chair’s intention is to take a leap forward and put the focus on knowledge transfer on both domestic and international levels, orientate the future strategies in the sector, innovate through applied research and thereby offer lines of improvement for competitiveness in the sector. The Chair aims to be the driving force that coastal tourism coast needs for positioning itself better and becoming more competitive.
