It's useful to know

This double degree is offered on the basis that both degrees share a significant proportion of credits. Furthermore, a convergence of these technical studies is visible in the context of the many careers to which the degrees can lead. This is the consequence of the changes in electricity distribution companies. The expansion of smart grids demonstrates the technological transformation of the sector and has caused both streams of engineering to develop more than ever to the benefit of the professionals involved.

Beyond the smart grids, there are other fields causing this change, such as micro-generation, renewable energy, the roll-out of electrical cars and energy resource management, energetic resources, not to mention technological challenges.

To obtain the double degree, the student must successfully pass five academic years with an average of 60 ECTS credits per year. In the final year, a bachelor's thesis has to be prepared in which the knowledge from the two courses should be demonstrated, or the student can carry out a thesis for each degree.

The ECTS credits are divided as follows:

  • 147 ECTS credits from compulsory subjects common to the two courses
  • 15 ECTS credits from Electronic Engineering (EE) compulsory subjects that are optional to Automatic and Industrial Electronic Engineering (AIEE)
  • 4 ECTS credits from AIEE compulsory subjects that are optional to EE
  • 10 ECTS credits from subjects that are optional to both degrees
  • 33 ECTS credits from other EE compulsory subjects
  • 39 ECTS credits from other AIEE compulsory subjects

  • Upper secondary school education. Access: university entrance examinations (PAU), general phase. Admission: weighting of subjects examined in university entrance exam (PAU) linked to the branch of knowledge of Engineering and Architecture.
  • Higher level vocational training cycles (CFGS). Access: all CFGS. Admission: weighting of subjects examined in university entrance exam (PAU) linked to the branch of knowledge of Engineering and Architecture.
  • Over 25s. Must pass the preferential option of the entrance exam: Engineering and Architecture.
  • Over 45s. Must pass entrance exam and demonstrate suitability at interview.

Upon finishing the Dual bachelor's degree Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering, the student can go on to study for a Master in Industrial Engineering, offered by the University of Girona, which is the only official master's degree that authorises the holder to enter the industrial engineer profession.

Moreover, other technology and science master's degrees are open to the successful student. Practical work experience

All subjects forming part of the dual bachelor's degree Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering have a practical aspect which is very important for the studies and the subsequent insertion into the labour market. Practical classes are carried out in small groups in modern laboratories that are equipped for current needs.

Businesses play a large role at the Polytechnic School. As an Dual bachelor's degree Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering student, you will be able to take up work placements from a number of companies. You will be able to choose between over 450 options available each year.

Bachelor's thesis

During the final year, you will have to write a bachelor's thesis on both Electrical Engineering and Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering, in which you must demonstrate the expertise acquired through the two courses. The bachelor's thesis is an engineering project on a topic of the student’s choice. It is carried out under the supervision of a lecturer. If so desired, it can be conducted in a company or a research group.

The business association that supports the Polytechnic School and the professional college of engineers award prizes to the best theses every year.

The Polytechnic School (PS) maintains relations with universities from all over the world. There are several mobility and exchange programmes that will allow you to study abroad, carry out the bachelor's thesis or expand your studies: Erasmus, Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus, Socrates, IAESTE, SICUE-Séneca, Balsells scholarships, Josep Maria Ginés i Pous scholarships, etc.

3. Documents accrediting access to the university:

The University does not require any document to be produced, as such information is accredited by the University's Admissions Office. Students who have sat the university entrance exams (PAU) are advised to download their accreditation documents from the university’s Access Portal in the same year they passed their exams, as they will stop being accessible on 31 December.

5. Only where a student is not the holder of the bank account paying for their enrolment, a communication/change of bank data form (available on the Forms page) and a photocopy of the bank account holder’s ID.

The documentation must be submitted either when you enrol or before the 19 November at the Academic Secretary’s Office of the teaching centre (except for the large-family card in the event of renewal, which must be presented before 31 December).
