It's useful to know

Environmental Sciences are multi-disciplinary studies which bring together a whole range of very diverse and apparently even disparate fields of study, focusing on a common subject: the environment.

These studies are being offered at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Girona and accordingly require an education or basic grounding in the classical scientific disciplines: mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology and biology.

These studies are being offered at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Girona and therefore consolidate a basic education in the classical scientific disciplines: mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology and biology; which, with knowledge on the human, social and economic environment, describe the complexity of environmental problems and their comprehensive vision of today’s world.

The organisation of the Bachelor’s degree.

The first year of the Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences includes fundamental scientific materials and integrated scientific techniques. These boost teamwork, the achievement of instrumental practical and observation skills, and field work with the multi-disciplinary approach that environmental studies are of instrumental practical competences and of observation, and the fieldwork with the multidisciplinary approach that environmental studies stand out for.

The second year offers modules that provide basic knowledge of the natural, social, economic and legal environments as well as data-processing techniques.

These concepts are completed and broadened during the third year, with the introduction of contents in environmental technology and quality management, and with the tools and the basic methods for environmental-impact assessments.

It is compulsory for fourth year’s students to take a Project subject and do a Bachelor's thesis, which consists of tutored practical work. They also have to choose between taking subjects with a vocational focus or doing Business Placements. Finally, students will have to choose a total of 30 optional credits, in two 15-credit modules, on diverse issues that allow them to complete their education.

The offer of elective credits represents the thematic diversity of Environmental Sciences studies, whose aim is to give a full education, according to the students’ respective interests.

A double degree in Biology and Environmental Science is also offered.

Access

Access requirements

  • Upper secondary school education. Access: university entrance examinations (PAU), general phase. Admission: weighting of the subjects examined in PAU, linked to the branch of knowledge of Sciences.
  • Higher level vocational training cycles (CFGS). Access: all CFGS. Admission: weighting of the subjects examined in PAU, linked to the branch of knowledge of Sciences.
  • Over 25s. Preferential option in successful entrance exam: Science
  • Over 40s. Appraisal of any professional experience related to the bachelor's degree the applicant wishes to study for and suitability for the course, as demonstrated at interview.
  • Over 45s. Must pass entrance exam and demonstrate suitability at interview.
  • Other special types of access recognized under current regulations.

Environmentalists, an established figure in the labour market, have been steadily developing their own work competencies through the creation of a corresponding professional association. Their contribution has been fundamental in environmental-impact and territorial-ordering studies. When it comes to local or supra-local authorities, it is they who provide expertise in environmental legislation and the appropriate professionalism for drafting action plans aimed at achieving a development that is efficient and rational with resources and fair in benefits. They can acquire responsibilities in a company for the optimum use of resources and energy, the treatment and minimisation of waste and emissions, in the establishment of environmental security programmes. They may also be involved in the study and management of natural spaces and their conservation under environmental-education and communication projects.

Master's degree The UdG offers an extensive range of masters degrees. Master's degree courses offer advanced, specialised or multidisciplinary training, aimed at providing students with an academic or professional specialism or an introduction to research. These are official courses that enable students to move on to study for a doctoral degree.

Doctorate degree The aim of Dral studies is to provide students with advanced training in research techniques and the programmes include the production and presentation of a doctoral thesis, consisting of an original research project. To join a doctoral programme you need to have a minimum of between 60 and 120 ECTS credits at official university master's degree level or equivalent.

Postgraduate courses and specialization. University of Girona foundation: Innovation and Training is a centre that hosts and organises ongoing training activities with the aim of meeting ongoing higher level training needs. Practical work experience

Within the framework of their studies, students have to acquire a series of credits that correspond to practical work experience placements , in companies or institutions related with the degree that they are studying. The teaching load is determined in accordance with the curriculum.

Bachelor's thesis

To obtain the degree, students have to complete a bachelor's thesis (TFG) which serves to assess the general skills they have acquired over the course of the degree programme and offers a summary of the skills and knowledge they have acquired. The teaching load of the thesis depends on the curriculum of the degree.

Mobility

Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.

They also have access to grants for placements at Spanish universities and those on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.

The teaching centre will give you instructions on how to get your student identification card.

Nationality Documents
Students from EU countries, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Andorra Certified copy of valid ID
Non-EU foreign students TIE (foreign-national ID) preferably, or passport where TIE is not available.

2. Proof of receipt of allowances or exemptions, under section 1.1.3 of the Enrolment Regulations.


3. Documents accrediting access to the university:

The University does not require any document to be produced, as such information is accredited by the University's Admissions Office. Students who have sat the university entrance exams (PAU) are advised to download their accreditation documents from the university’s Access Portal in the same year they passed their exams, as they will stop being accessible on 31 December.
Pre-enrolled university students with a university degree not obtained from the UdG Original and photocopy or certified copy of the degree or its provisional certificate 
Pre-enrolled university students with transferred academic records (students enrolled at other university centres) Academic certificate featuring courses and qualifications and confirming payment of transfer fees
Students with access from record transfers The University does not require students to present any documents, as they will have had to produce them beforehand during the transfer-call period

4. An enrolment-application form, where appropriate (provided by the teaching institution)


5. Only where a student is not the holder of the bank account paying for their enrolment, a communication/change of bank data form (available on the Forms page) and a photocopy of the bank account holder’s ID.

The documentation must be submitted either when you enrol or before the 19 November at the Academic Secretary’s Office of the teaching centre (except for the large-family card in the event of renewal, which must be presented before 31 December).

Online enrolment

Online enrolment is the University of Girona's electronic enrolment system where enrolment is carried out via the internet, and is available for most study programmes.
