The Technical Architecture and Construction course leads to a degree that offers a large array of immediate job opportunities, from building construction and renovation to landscaping, urban planning and sustainable construction. Accordingly, it provides students with the knowledge and skills to work in one of today’s most important sectors for economic development.
It is advisable that the student has already studied mathematics, physics and technical graphics. The student should feel at ease in these subjects.
Knowledge of languages (French and English), although not necessary, will be of help to the student’s professional development through international relations and information research.
Competences
The purpose of this degree is to provide students with the tools to acquire the skills necessary for entering the profession:
- Directing material execution construction works, its installations and components, carrying out qualitative and quantitative control of construction through the establishment and management of material audits, the systems and execution of works, and preparing the relevant records for their inclusion in the buildings registry. Budget control of the work and preparing certifications and settlements for the work.
- Drafting studies and occupational health and safety plans, and coordinating the activity of companies in relation the health and safety in construction works, whether at the project or execution stage.
- Carrying out calculations, measurements, assessments, valuations and economic feasibility studies; carrying out surveys, inspections, pathology analysis and drafting reports, opinions and technical documents; performing measured drawings of plans for plots and buildings.
- Preparing technical projects and managing construction works through their legal authorisation.
- Managing new construction technology and participating in quality management processes relating to construction; conducting analyses, assessments and certifications on energy efficiency, as well as studies on sustainability in relation to buildings.
- Supervising and managing the use, preservation and maintenance of buildings; drafting the necessary technical documents. Drawing up useful lifecycle studies on materials, construction systems and buildings. Managing the treatment of demolition and construction waste.
- Offering technical advice on the manufacture processes of materials and items used in the construction of buildings.
- Managing the property development process in its entirety. Acting as the technical representative of construction companies in their works.
Graduates in Technical Architecture Construction have a versatility that allows them to pursue their professional activity in any specialisation within the construction sector, while also providing the skills to adapt easily to the job markets of other countries. A holder of a degree in technical architecture receives an education in both technology and management.
Such a graduate will be able to carry out the project management of renovation, refurbishment, repair and consolidation of construction works, in accordance with the relevant legislation. Graduates will be able to supervise the material execution of works and conduct quality and quantity control. They will be able to manage the process in its entirety, hiring and managing the different parties to a project (architect, technical architect, calculation engineers, industrialists, estates agents, etc.). For all this, knowledge of 21st-century construction methods is required. These methods focus on the control of resource use, pollution reduction and proper waste management. The graduate will know how to draft the corresponding occupational health and safety studies and plans, and how to coordinate construction companies that take part in a project.
They will be able to conduct the technical calculation of facilities or structures, realise designs for specific construction solutions, measurements, economic studies and topography work, in collaboration with engineers and architects.
One sector currently in need of a high number of graduates in technical architecture is industry. The manufacturing processes of materials and items for construction and especially production controls require technical consultants.
A holder of a degree in technical architecture can set themselves up as a freelance professional, enter operational posts at any private or engineering company (manager, technical manager, survey technician, sales technician, project manager) involved in the sector, enter the technical services of the local authority or become a teacher in secondary or tertiary education institutes.
