New study
This degree renews the bachelor’s degree offer of the University College of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts of Sant Pol de Mar, updating the contents and adapting them to the changing needs of the sector: more soft skills related to communication in a broad sense, more leadership, more subjects related to critical thinking and problem solving, but also more attention to personal and cultural diversity and to the sustainability of actions and companies. At the same time, we are also focusing on what has evolved in the subjects specific to our sector: hospitality, culinary arts and food service.
Studying this degree provides students with the knowledge, skills and working techniques, as well as the attitudes and behaviours necessary, to effectively and efficiently perform a wide range of managerial functions in hotel, gastronomic and catering companies.
The students should be able to take operational and strategic decisions by the end of their studies.
Each student will carry out up to four work placements in the departments of hotel and catering companies, depending on their specialisation and level. The internships in years 1 and 3 are curricular; in addition, the university college offers extracurricular internships in years 2 and 4. The latter are work placements and are linked to the Professional Development Days (JDP) which are organised annually by the college.
EUHT StPOL has numerous framework agreements for internships, signed with both national and international companies in the sector. This allows students to have up to 3 international internship experiences.
The study area "Internships" in the degree programme includes two periods of compulsory internships, 8 ECTS credits for first-year students and 12 ECTS credits for third-year students. In addition, the centre encourages extracurricular internships in second and fourth years.
The internships are carried out in renowned hotel or culinary establishments, both in Spain and abroad, where the student performs supervised operational and especially management tasks.
In the first-year internship, the student acquires first-hand knowledge of how a hotel, culinary or food service company works, which will provide significance to the subsequent theoretical studies in company management and business administration.
By the third year, the student is already able to experience and apply this knowledge in order to acquire international working skills, multiculturalism and diversity in terms of hospitality and food service management approaches in different geographic and cultural areas.
To obtain the degree, each student must complete a final degree project (TFG). It is an 8 ECTS credit subject that serves to demonstrate mastery and application of the knowledge, competences and skills that define the degree. It is scheduled as an annual subject to facilitate development and incorporation of improvements derived from the tutorial sessions and the subjects taken during the year, many of which are electives chosen according to the interests of each student.
EUHT StPOL actively encourages its students to spend part of their academic and practical training abroad. This mobility is normally channelled through the Erasmus+ programmes, both for studies and internships abroad.
The institution also provides support for other available mobility grants.
