Chair of Geography and Territorial Thinking

Presentation

Who we are and what we do

What is the Chair of Geography and Territorial Thinking?

The Chair of Geography and Territorial Thinking was created as part of a collaboration agreement, signed in 1996, between the University of Girona and Olot Town Hall.

The Chair of Geography comes under the University of Girona and acts as permanent forum for study, reflection, research and diffusion of any subject matter related to the world of regional geography and planning. It serves as a stage for the creation and dissemination of "territorial culture", aside from the usual academic condition of regulated studies.

The different subjects addressed include: new currents and new methods in territorial organisation, the challenges posed by environmental management, the perception of the landscape and the configuration of images linked to the territory, tourism and sustainability, geopolitical analyses and the scalar dimension of territorial planning.

It is aimed at all professionals and persons involved in the analysis and the management of the territory; subjects like geography, urban planning, natural sciences, engineering, economics, sociology, political sciences, art history, landscape gardening, philosophy, etc.

A Chair open to society

Since its creation, the Chair has aimed to be involved in the analysis, planning and management of the local territory. To this end, it has signed collaboration agreements with several institutions, with which it collaborates directly offering technical advice and organising courses and seminars.
