The group was created in 1995 and has since worked on several research projects in two main areas:

  • Anàli if and interpretation of the structures and territorial and urban dynamics in Catalonia.
  • Analysis and participation in physical, strategic and environmental planning processes in local territorial systems, especially in urban areas.

From the outset, close cooperation has been established with European centres of research, especially with the Dipartimento di Analisi Economica e Sociale del Territorio (DAEST) , as part of the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV) , and with the Dipartimento Interateneo Territorio (DITER), de l'Università e Politecnico di Torino . It also collaborated with several Spanish universities; currently with a group made up of four universities: Pablo Olavide de Seville, University of Valencia, University of Alicante, University of Granada.

The Landscape Analysis and Management Laboratory (LAGP) is a basic and applied research unit in the field of landscaping, linked to the Institute of the Environment (IMA) and the Chair of Geography and Territorial Thinking at the Universitat de Girona (UdG).

The LAGP focusses its activity on landscape studies through the development of cutting-edge, top-quality research that serves as a point of reference on both a national and international scale. The lines of research explore the production of new knowledge and methodologies in the area of the analysis, organisation and management of the landscape, which serves to support land planning. The image and perception of the landscape in society constitute an important part of the group’s research.

The Environment and Geographical Information Technologies Research Group (GRMATIG) is linked to the University of Girona through the Institute of the Environment and the Chair of Geography and Territorial Thinking. Its activities began in 1990 and it is headed up by Anna Ribas Palom.

GRMATIG develops its research in the fields of the human dimension of natural risks (especially, flooding and droughts), the organisation of river spaces, the ecology of the landscape and the management of the natural and agricultural spaces.

Since 2005, it has been recognised by the Consolidated Research Group at AQU as a member of the “Water, territory and sustainability” group comprising researchers from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universitat de Girona.
