Institute of Tourism Studies (INSETUR)

Presentation

The Institute aims to contribute to improving  knowledge of the reality of tourism in the surrounding area, aware that investment in tourism R&D&I is the main means of ensuring competitiveness in the sector.INSETUR seeks to serve as a tool at the service of its surroundings and a proactive instrument for improving the most important economic sector in the UdG's area of influence.

The members of INSETUR are teachers at the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Girona who specialise in subject areas such as the creation of tourism products and pathways, cultural heritage, tourism information management, the application of new technologies in the tourism industry, the analysis of tourism impacts, and destination management, among others.

Objectives

  1. Create synergies between departments, research groups and university teaching staff from different disciplines specialising in the global area of tourism.
  2. Provide doctoral and postgraduate training in tourism and organise the ongoing training of professionals involved in decision-making process.
  3. Become a scientific and technical interlocutor between all the players involved in tourist management.
  4. Advise the various players on taking decisions in tourist matters.
  5. Promote interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research.
  6. Become a permanent observatory of the situation, dynamics and evolution of tourism parameters in Catalonia in general, and in the Girona counties in particular.
  7. Encourage academic and scientific-technical collaboration in the international arena.
  8. Promote research projects and technical application in the field of cooperation with impoverished countries.

Regulations

The university institutes are units committed to scientific and technical research or to artistic creation.They promote and they organise master's degree studies and specialisation, provide advice within their powers, and cooperate with each other, other centres and other units on research and teaching programmes.They can pertain solely to the UdG or be affiliated with it, or they be inter-university institutes.
