4 practical tips

Generative AI applications

Do not introduce any tool without first providing everyone with basic training in AI.

How can you do this? Before students use the tool, you first need to provide them with basic training on what AI is, how it works, and what its limitations are. This ensures that its use is based on a critical knowledge base, and also avoids potential inequalities due to a lack of digital skills.

The content of generative AI must always be checked and verified, as its sources can be unclear or difficult to trace.

How can you do this? Do not take anything for granted and make it a rule to verify results using reliable sources. Ensure that you can interpret the results correctly by understanding its limitations. Do not accept information that is inaccurate or harmful to students.

Do not share any of the students’ personal information with any generative AI application.

How can you do this?Privacy is a top priority and, whilst this is a simple guideline, be aware that you need to control access to data and establish clear mechanisms to ensure that no generative AI has access to folders or files that contain personal information.

Although AI can serve as a support tool, the ultimate responsibility and pedagogical decisions are yours.

How can you do this? Do not delegate your criteria and maintain constant supervision of the functioning of the AI system. Do not exaggerate its capabilities or assign it core teaching functions. Assess how it influences students’ decision-making to ensure that it fosters critical thinking rather than replacing it.
