Cognition, Development and Mental Health Research Group

Applications of video feedback in educational and healthcare contexts

This line of research focuses on analysing the applications of video feedback as an inclusive, accessible and evidence-based intervention resource aimed at promoting mental health and supporting parenting among mothers and families in vulnerable situations, with particular attention to immigrant communities and socio-economically disadvantaged contexts. While not limited exclusively to these groups, the theoretical framework extends to include the study of children, adolescents and families facing diverse socio-educational challenges, as well as those with disabilities, psychological distress, or associated mental health conditions.Intervention proposals derived from this research integrate video-based therapies, combining psycho-educational and mental health practices with empirical evidence. These approaches apply to individual, family, multi-family or group interventions, as well as to work with frontline professionals (teachers, educators, social workers, nurses and support staff). The primary objective is to strengthen parental bonds and capabilities (maternal and/or paternal), optimise child or adolescent development, and mitigate long-term inequalities in well-being and health.

Within this line, the following aspects are investigated:

  • Analysis and coding of interaction and intervention to foster change.
  • Study on the use of video in individual or group psychotherapeutic and/or psycho-educational contexts
  • Study of the use of video in developmental delays and disorders and mental illness of children and adolescents
  • Study on the use of remote interventions via devices and mobile phones
  • Study on the use of video in the work and reflective practice of frontline educational or healthcare professionals [frontline workers]
