Observatory of European and Mediterranean Languages

Exhibition ‘The Catalan of Young People’

This exhibition raises a series of questions regarding the Catalan spoken by young people in today’s globalised world, which tends to homogenise cultures.Do young people speak badly? What characterises the Catalan spoken by young people? What is youth slang? What is happening in terms of language interference? Are young people the main drivers of linguistic change?

The aim is to promote linguistic awareness in a generation characterised by multilingualism and shared socio-cultural references. The exhibition also invites reflection on regional linguistic roots.
