Joint Master in Chromatographic Techniques

Access, admission and enrolment

Entry profiles:

Students at whom this master’s degree is aimed must hold an undergraduate degree and want to specialise in chromatographic techniques to work at one of the aforementioned firms or laboratories or to write their doctoral thesis in this field. It is the only official master's degree in its subject matter in Spain. Students must be willing to move, as this is an interuniversity master's degree with a strong mobility component.

The recommended profile is of someone with an official university degree or an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Environmental Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Chemical Engineering and related areas. Official degree holders whose certificate was issued by a higher education institution in the EHEA, offering access to master's degrees in the issuing country.Other similar degrees to all those mentioned have to be evaluated beforehand by the selection committee. Other similar degrees to all those mentioned have to be evaluated beforehand by the selection committee.

Students interested in studying the University Master's Degree in Applied Chromatographic Techniques must pre-enrol at the participating university at which they want to study the master's degree:

Once the pre-enrolment deadline has elapsed, the Interuniversity Master's Degree Coordination Committee (CICA) will decide on the admission of pre-enrolled students. Before this decision is made, and to facilitate the work of the CICA, the internal coordinators at each university, or in their absence, the degree committees, will provide the CICA with a list with students from its university who comply with the access requirements and who should be accepted.

There are 25 places on offer for the master's degree among the three universities taking part, which implies an ideal maximum of 8-9 places per university, corresponding to the maximum number of students that each university can accept owing to the limitations for Laboratory Practical subjects.

Selection criteria:

To be accepted on the University Master's Degree in Applied Chromatographic Techniques, you must fulfil the requirement of compulsory access requirements. If the number of applications exceeds the limit in the programme, the Interuniversity Master's Degree Coordination Committee (CICA) or, in its absence, the Degree Committee, will be responsible for the selection process based on the following criteria:

  1. Academic record: up to 75 points. The academic record is assessed based on the provisions of regulations on determining the medium mark for academic purposes (currently, Royal Decree 1267/1994, of 10 June, of the Ministry of Education and Science, amended by Royal Decree 1497/1987, of 27 November). This Royal Decree 1267/1994 establishes the following table of equivalence: fail = 0; pass = 1; good = 2; excellent = 3; with honours = 4.
  2. Knowledge of English: up to 15 points.
  3. Other degrees in addition to those required to access the master's degree: up to 10 points

Furthermore, practical knowledge of analytical chemistry (work at analysis or R&D laboratories) will be taken into consideration as will recognised experience in chromatographic techniques and/or mass spectrometry.

Future students must demonstrate they have a B1 level of English, or equivalent, under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. If the student has knowledge of English but no certificate proving it, then their English proficiency may be tested as part of an interview.
