The course content is structured around the following thematic areas: 1) Introduction to qualitative methodologies: why use qualitative methodologies?, which are the basic epistemological paradigms?, what are the most usual techniques to use? and a brief introduction to participant observation; and 2) The individual and group interview. The objectives of the course are: - To understand why qualitative methodologies are used. - To reflect on important aspects when using qualitative methodologies. - To put some information collection and qualitative analysis techniques into practice.

This course offer a series of secondary but basic elements surrounding the scientific activity and fundamental for being able to advance professionally in this part of the research work.

Disseny experimental i mostreig (3501DC0039)

Basic concepts of experimental design: randomisation, answers, repetitions, strategies to follow, and so on. Efficient designs with multiple variables that enable the maximum information to be gleaned from the minimum number of experiments. Factorial designs (full and fractional) and significance concepts, main effects, interactions and models. Block concepts. Response surface methodology to optimise one or various answers. The techniques of sampling will be revised and the main methods will be implemented. Simple and visual tools will be used such as the free software (R) for doing the most complex calculations. We will focus on interpreting the results using practical examples. Students must have some basic notions of statistics.

Doctoral students often have many questions when writing a doctoral thesis in Law. Where do I start? What exactly do I have to do? What must the thesis consist of? What should I read? Where can I find information? Which approach should I use? How do I cite documents? How can I efficiently structure my tasks and manage my time better? Who can help me when I have a question? This course provides students with basic instructions in answer to these and other questions, with the aim of facilitating the often long and complex process of writing a Law thesis.

Curs d’estadística amb SPSS aplicat a la recerca (3501DC0051)

This course presents the SPSS programme and applies statistical tools for correctly obtaining and interpreting results. The course works on data processing, univariant and bivariant descriptive statistics, inference from one and two populations and applies normality tests. The sessions are accompanied by a theory part and combined with a practical part using this statistical software and facilitating the interpretation of the results.

Curs de modelització i anàlisi multivariant amb SPSS (3501DC0052)

This course presents linear-regression models, logistic-regression models, multivariant analyses (analyses of simple correspondences and main components). The sessions are accompanied by a theory part and combined with a practical part using this statistical software and facilitating the interpretation of the results. This is not an introductory course but a continuation of the "Statistics with SPSS applied to the research” course where some statistical concepts are taken to be known.
