After graduating (in 1986) and PhD (in 1990) at the University of Barcelona, I entered as an assistant professor, in Statistics and Econometrics, at the University of Barcelona, where I won the position of Full Professor in 1991. In 1994 I was, on commission of services to Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona. Finally, in 1995 I joined the University of Girona, where I obtained the Chair of Statistics and Econometrics in 2003.
My lines of research are both methodological and applied. Among the former are spatial statistics, health econometrics, Bayesian statistics, spatiotemporal models, mixed models, survival analysis, and biostatistics. Among those applied are environmental epidemiology, spatial epidemiology. clinical epidemiology (especially cardiovascular risk factors and COVID-19) and the study of socioeconomic and environmental inequalities in health.
I am the author of more than 200 articles published in journals indexed in the JCR ISI database, more than 70 in the last 5 years; 110 located in the first quartile, 42 of which in the last five years. Also, I have published 22 books and 12 book chapters. I lead the Research Group in Statistics, Econometrics and Health (GRECS), of the University of Girona, a consolidated group at the national level (CIBER of Epidemiology and Public Health) and at the regional level (SGR of the AGAUR). I am a member of the Group of Experts on Climate Change in Catalonia (Group of Excellence). I am also an associate researcher at CRES, Pompeu Fabra University. I was IP of an international competitive project and of a Work Package of a European competitive project. I was IP of 8 competitive projects at the national level and 6 at the regional level. I have participated as a researcher in three European projects, 24 at the national level and 10 at the regional level. I have led 11 non-competitive research projects and have led 45 research contracts and 10 agreements without financial compensation. I have directed 23 doctoral theses, already defended, and I am directing 8 more. In addition, I have directed 12 master's theses. I have been granted five research six-year terms, right now I have one active and a transfer six-year term, which is active. I have received 14 research awards and 5 post-doctoral fellowships. I am in the process of approving a patent and I have two entries in the Intellectual Property Registry. I have organized more than 30 workshops, courses and seminars.
