Materials

  • Analysis and quality assurance of raw materials and the finished product (determination of majority and minority elements).Valuation of textile waste, building materials, natural products such as wood, materials resulting from silviculture,... (AEFT-IR i ICP).
  • Characterization of polymeric (plastics, elastomers, resins, and so on),metallic, ceramic and composite material through thermal analysis techniques (DMADSCTGATMA i FT-IR).
  • Identification of substances present in solid samples (XRD and XRPD):
    • The construction industry as a way of detecting asbestos and cements. Analysis of soils, and sand and gravel.
    • Archaeology and restoration: Identification of components in mortars, building materials.
    • The Chemical Industry: Structural elucidation for new substances.
    • The ceramics industry. Nanotechnology and new materials. Polymorphism and pseudopolymorphism (hydrated and solvated forms).
    • Pharmaceutical Industry: Polymorphism and sample purity studies
  • Obtaining images with high resolution.Elementary microanalysis and characterisation of particles (SEM):
    • Metallurgy: Quality assurance.Studies of corrosion, fissures, deposits and fractures.
    • Restoration: Structural and chemical studies in works of art. Degradation and characterisation in monuments.
    • Characterisation of materials: Structural studies in materials like metals, polymers, semiconductors, ceramics, etc.
  • Rheological characterisation of materials (Rotational Rheometer):
    • Flow/viscosity curves for fluids such as oils, cosmetics and food products.
    • Study of viscoelasticity behaviour (plastics, rubbers, resins and composite materials among others).
