Master in Communication and Politics

Placements

The placements are optional, as Subject Area 7: Practising communication gives students the option of choosing between the subject: Project design workshop or External placements. We need to point out that the learning results of both coincide, as in both cases the student resolves political communication problems and projects: in the workshop these are in simulated scenarios, while with the placement they are in institutions, media channels and social organisations around Girona or Catalonia, as well as other regions or countries where justified.

The programme already has contacts for placements in institutions in the immediate area, such as Girona City Council and the Provincial Council, as well as local medal channels such as the newspaper i>El Punt</i> and the i>Diari de Girona</i>.The placements can also be done with the political parties at local level, and there is a list of local civil society associations students can opt for, ranging from community centres to trade unions. However, it will be the students who choose and propose their placements. To this end, a “Placement Proposal” will need to be submitted in writing and a letter of acceptance requested from the organisation in question.

This proposal will be analysed by a Monitoring Commission made up of 3 members of the teaching staff from the master and, if approved (taking into account its suitability for the learning goals and its feasibility), a member of the teaching staff will be assigned as the internal tutor for the placement.Placement assessment is explained further on and is based on the placement report each student has to write, the report of the person responsible at the institution where the placement has taken place, and the appraisal of the tutor presented to the Follow-Up Commission.
