Socio-cognitive processes and forensic psychopathology

This line of research focuses on the study of socio-cognitive processes - such as empathy, morality and emotional intelligence - and their relationship with psychopathology in forensic contexts, especially in the prison population. It analyses how these psychological processes contribute to the understanding of antisocial and criminal behaviour, as well as the development of clinical and forensic profiles. This line of research also focuses on the study of risk factors and protection against behaviours such as suicide, re-incidence and violence, and is complemented with an ethical approach applied to psychological practice in the forensic and legal sphere.

Lines of research and applied areas

Paediatric personality and psychopathology disorders: Study of the prevalence of personality disorders and psychopathology associated with the penitentiary population and how they are linked to antisocial and criminal behaviour, as well as re-incidence and violence.

Pscopathy and the dark triad personality: Research into psychopathic, Machiavellian, narcissistic and sadistic personality traits and their relationship with socio-cognitive processes such as moral disconnection, empathy and emotional intelligence.

Gender differences in the psychopathic personality: Study of the specific characteristics of the psychopathic personality in women, including differences in the expression of empathy, emotional intelligence and morality.

Study of risk factors and protection of suicide in prison populations.

Ethics applied in the forensic environment: Study of the ethical dilemmas arising from evaluation and intervention in forensic environments, incorporating reflection on processes such as moral judgement, empathy and emotional responsibility in professional practice.
