It's useful to know
This double degree is offered on the basis that both degrees share a significant proportion of credits. Furthermore, a convergence of these technical studies is visible in the context of the many careers to which the degrees can lead. This is the consequence of the changes in electricity distribution companies. The expansion of smart grids demonstrates the technological transformation of the sector and has caused both streams of engineering to develop more than ever to the benefit of the professionals involved.
Beyond the smart grids, there are other fields causing this change, such as micro-generation, renewable energy, the roll-out of electrical cars and energy resource management, energetic resources, not to mention technological challenges.
To obtain the double degree, the student must successfully pass five academic years with an average of 60 ECTS credits per year. In the final year, a bachelor's thesis has to be prepared in which the knowledge from the two courses should be demonstrated, or the student can carry out a thesis for each degree.
The ECTS credits are divided as follows:
- 147 ECTS credits from compulsory subjects common to the two courses
- 15 ECTS credits from Electronic Engineering (EE) compulsory subjects that are optional to Automatic and Industrial Electronic Engineering (AIEE)
- 4 ECTS credits from AIEE compulsory subjects that are optional to EE
- 10 ECTS credits from subjects that are optional to both degrees
- 33 ECTS credits from other EE compulsory subjects
- 39 ECTS credits from other AIEE compulsory subjects
- 15 ECTS credits from other EE compulsory subjects
- 10 ECTS credits from other AIEE optional subjects
- 30 ECTS credits from bachelor's theses/thesis

Careers
The dual bachelor's degree Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering provides the student with specialised training on top of a solid general education in engineering. This offers a versatility and ability to adapt to different types of work, thus broadening the students job opportunities. The professional careers available after obtaining the double degree match the career paths offered by each individual degree. The complementary nature of the two engineer profiles provide greater job prospects because the double degree education fits into various professional profiles:
- engineering and consultancy firms, whether industrial control and automation, industrial electronics or industrial robotics.
- companies in the electrical sector
- renewable energy companies
- energy services companies
- general industry
- the services
- Administration
- education
- Research and technology transfer
- practising free engineering
- the company itself
Recent studies on the job prospects show that holders of this double degree quickly find work, even before finishing their studies, and such work is related to their course. You can get an idea of your many professional options by looking at the careers services of the different engineers’ associations, for example enginyersgi.cat .
Continue studying
When you finish the double degree in Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering
you can study the Master's in Industrial Engineering at the University of Girona. This is the only official master's degree that qualifies you to work in the regulated profession of industrial engineering.
Moreover, other technology and science master's degrees are open to the successful student. Among the master’s degrees offered by the University of Girona are those with an eminently practical profile and focused on the needs of the labour market. There are also those focused on research, with which you can access the Doctoral degree in Technology.
Other specialisation courses and postgraduate activities are available through the University of Girona Foundation: Innovation and Training, whose main objective is to fulfil the needs of higher level lifelong learning in all fields of knowledge.

have a practical aspect, which will be significant for studies and to facilitate your incorporation into professional life. Practical classes are carried out in small groups in modern laboratories that are equipped for current needs.
Businesses play a large role at the Polytechnic School. As an Dual bachelor's degree Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering / Electrical Engineering student, you will be able to take up work placements from a number of companies. You will be able to choose between over 450 options available each year.
Bachelor's thesis
During the final year, you will have to write a bachelor's thesis on both Electrical Engineering and Automation and Industrial Electronics Engineering, in which you must demonstrate the expertise acquired through the two courses. The bachelor's thesis is an engineering project on a topic of the student’s choice. It is carried out under the supervision of a lecturer. If so desired, it can be conducted in a company or a research group.
The Board of Companies that supports the Higher Polytechnic School and the professional associations of engineers awards prizes annually for the best Final Degree Projects.
Mobility
The Polytechnic School (PS) maintains relations with universities from all over the world. There are several mobility and exchange programmes that will allow you to study abroad, carry out the bachelor's thesis or expand your studies: Erasmus, Erasmus+, Erasmus Mundus, Socrates, IAESTE, SICUE-Séneca, Balsells scholarships, Josep Maria Ginés i Pous scholarships, etc.
