The objective of the Bachelor's degree in History is to develop excellent historians with a good knowledge of history and how it relates to the present, people who are skilled in carrying out research and disseminating knowledge, as well as managing information and resources linked with cultural heritage, and who are capable of lifelong learning and adapting to the constant changes today’s world.
History students must be curious and interested in the social, political and economic issues of the past and present, as well as in reading reports, biographies and history books, as well as demonstrating a sensitivity towards archaeological, documentary and historical heritage in general.Knowledge of languages is highly useful.
The current curriculum, which has been in force since 2022, reinforces the history of Catalonia, which occupies a central part of the Bachelor's degree in history studies. This is achieved not only through cross-disciplinary training in most compulsory subjects but also with a specific pathway of up to 11 optional subjects that lead to a Mention in the History of Catalonia, as a supplement to the Bachelor's degree in History at the University of Girona.
Skills acquired
Knowing the past and relating it to the present, finding and analysing information, discussing and communicating ideas and arguments, designing and applying historical research projects or those related to cultural heritage, analysing society with suitable theories and methodologies, working in a team, using information technologies applied to social sciences, progressively using the English language.

A bachelor's degree in History allows students to orientate themselves towards several professions, in some cases with subsequent complementary education: teaching in secondary institutes and at superior academic levels, directing digs and performing archaeological studies, working in archives and libraries, historical research, managing historical and cultural heritage, publishing industry, documentary-making and media, cultural consultancy, working in public administration, managing international projects...
University master’s degrees

Doctorate degree programmes
The doctoral studies are aimed at providing students with advanced training in research techniques and include the preparation and presentation of a doctoral thesis, consisting of original research work.To join a doctoral programme you need to have a minimum of between 60 and 120 ECTS credits at official university master's degree level or equivalent.

Students can complete part of their degree programme abroad through the Erasmus programme, which enables them to carry on their studies whilst undertaking an international exchange with academic value in a European university.
They also have access to grants for placements at universities in Spain and on other continents, thanks to bilateral agreements, the SICUE programme and the expansion of the Erasmus+ Programme.
