Teaching is concentrated in the faculties and schools, and the departments deal with research, which is also conducted by institutes and chairs, at the same time responsible for knowledge promotion.
The jury of the 2ndTom Sharpe Literature Chair Short Story Competition at the University of Girona, composed of Josep Maria Fonalleras, Xavier Pla, and Matthew Tree, announced its verdict on 6 June 2026, the thirteenth anniversary of Tom Sharpe's passing: Winner: Marta Mitjans Puebla, with Les vacances del Senyor Arrugat Runner-up Mariano Carrasco Ponce, with Almost Ready The Chair congratulates the winner and the runner-up, who will receive €750 and €250, respectively. Both stories will be published soon in a book that will be volume number 4 in the Chair's collection. We also wish to express our gratitude to all those who participated in this competition.The Chair's Short Story Competition is a biennial prize: it will alternate, every two years, with the Chair Grant.Thus, the next edition will be in 2028.
