Artificial intelligence plays an increasingly more important role in decision-making.This raises important questions about responsibility, accountability or transparency and, as goes without saying, the quality of decisions and their individual and collective impact.It also poses a key question: does AI take decision-making power away from us or does it represent a new way of using our decision-making power?We know that AI algorithms are a digital recipe, with a list of rules to achieve a result that can increase our capacities but can also see us lose autonomy for decision making.As a result, the evaluation and supervision of AI systems is fundamental not just to solve social and technical problems but to guarantee that public and private decisions based on AI respect a number of ethical principles firmly rooted and aligned with the expectations of democratic societies.With this in mind, the new cycle of OEIAC seminars addresses, from different subjects, a number of the main ethical and social considerations connected with the use and implantation of AI in the decision-making process at public and private organisations.

To provide new answers and, as goes without saying, to raise further questions about the future of AI in decision making, the OEIAC has launched this new cycle of seminars for knowledge transfer with expert guests who work and promote the development of AI that it is compatible with our social and cultural rules and that is people-centred.

The OEIAC Seminars Cycle will start on Tuesday 17 May and run until Thursday 3 November, when the closing ceremony of the OEIAC Cycle will take place.This cycle is aimed at everybody interested in the use and implementation of AI in the decision-making process in public as well as private organisations. 

All seminars will be online and start at 5 pm (with a 45-minute talk and 15-minute question time) on the University of Girona YouTube channel, except for the OEIAC cycle’s closing ceremony, which will be face to face and available to watch on the same channel.
