Observatory of Ethics in Artificial Intelligence

Research, dissemination and geographical rooting

Our vision of AI centres on people, their habitats and the environment and, to achieve it, we believe that AI technologies have to be developed and rolled out not just for operational gains and efficiency, but also to promote transparency, justice, safety, responsibility, privacy, autonomy and sustainability. This means adopting a relational approach that prioritises the human and social impact of AI, recognising the interconnection of people, communities and technologies while being aligned with three fundamental values: human dignity, democracy and the rule of law.

It is for this reason that, together with the Catalan Government, we have launched the ‘Manifesto to advance towards reliable AI’ within the framework of the Artificial Intelligence Strategy of Catalonia, Catalonia.AI, promoted by the Government through the Secretary for Digital Policies. This manifesto is a document without precedents at global scale, promoted by the Catalan Government in collaboration with the OEIAC at the University of Girona, to be delivered through theAlliance of Disruptive and Emergent Technologies (DETA), an initiative by the Catalan Government open to governments of regions and states from all over the world that show a clear commitment to democratic values, human rights and cultural and linguistic diversity. The alliance already brings together 17 governments that represent some of the main tech hubs in the world.
