Life at the UdG

Theatre workshop

Workshops, corporal expression, improvisation and diction

Since 1992, the Theatre Hall has offered theatre, body expression, improvisation and diction workshops for all students at the university. Each year, workshops have been offered on theatre, body expression, improvisation and diction. At the end of each academic year, we have staged a production at both the UdG and different towns in the regions of Girona. We have also taken part in several university theatre festivals. We have performed thirty works, for example, Roberto Zucco (Bernard Marie Koltès), La Comèdia Sin Título (Federico García Lorca) and Peer Gynt (Henrik Ibsen), among others.

We have also been lucky enough to work with Salvador Oliva, translator and expert of the works of Shakespeare and we have been able to perform works like Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Twelfth Night and Macbeth, among others. The Class has also taken part in other joint initiatives with the university itself, with several University Theatres Classes, and with the Girona community, in the case of the various performances given within the framework of Temps de Flors or on the open day at the Museu d'Art de Girona .

More than 25 years of productions

Who are we?

The theatre team is made up of:

  • Mercè Mas director of the theatre.
  • Meritxell Torres, management assistant and former student at the UdG.
  • Jordi Fuentes , the light and sound officer. He is also a former student at the UdG.
  • With very special collaboration from Salvador Oliva, a retired professor from the UdG.

At present, the theatre comes under the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Employment.

What do we do?

Owing to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Theatre Classroom activity will be carried out with a combination of virtual and face-to-face sessions adapted to the requisite measures.

At present, the Classroom activity will be held as follows:

During the first term (October-December) online and face-to-face work will be combined with reduced groups that will be progressively called.

Rehearsals will be on Fridays, and times for both virtual and face-to-face sessions will be arranged according to availability.

Theatrical technique will be taught through supervised improvisations:

  • Body expression (non-verbal language).
  • Oral expression (diction).

These improvisations will be worked on online (whatsapp, recordings, video calls, etc.,) or in face-to-face sessions, depending on the needs at any time.

Brief summaries, definitions, rules and theories relating to theatrical language will also be sent promptly, in writing.

The first term's activity may culminate in the preparation of a small production for Christmas based on the work carried out during the term.

The second term's activity will be planned for later on, based on the healthcare circumstances of the time.

  • All students enrolled at the UdG registered can take part.
  • You don’t need to have any acting experience.
  • You can obtain 1 academic credit.
  • This activity is free.
