Teaching is concentrated in the faculties and schools, and the departments deal with research, which is also conducted by institutes and chairs, at the same time responsible for knowledge promotion.
The primary objective is to contribute to community protection and the implementation of the Final Peace Agreement in Colombia, with the aim of improving prevention, protection, and security for peace signatories, human rights defenders, and social leaders. The initiative seeks to strengthen the capacity of communities to identify risks and respond to violence and stigma, expanding its scope from the historical regions of Cauca and Valle del Cauca to a national level and incorporating a cross-border analysis regarding the southern border with Ecuador.
The proposed activities are described below, organised into two areas of action:
Validating, digitizing, and implementing the “Seguròmetre”: a community protection tool designed and contextualized based on evidence gathered during the ethnography conducted in January 2025 in Cauca and Valle del Cauca. It pursues two objectives: a) To identify levels of insecurity and protection within communities and engage in policy advocacy; b) To identify, highlight, and transfer community security strategies and engage in policy advocacy.
Cross-border research collaboration with FLACSO-Ecuador: A significant number of FARC dissidents have crossed border areas for political or security reasons. In this context, a collaborative research initiative has been agreed upon between the FLACSO-Ecuador teams and the UdG team to produce a diagnostic report on the situation of peace agreement signatories along the Colombia-Ecuador border.
Touring the photographic exhibition “Fent-se(r) pau”: During the implementation of the project “Protection, pedagogy, and reconciliation for peacebuilding in Colombia,” an initial selection of photographs was made from the ethnographic work carried out in Cauca and Valle del Cauca. This initiative consists of two parts. The first involves expanding the selection of photographs to provide a more comprehensive representation of the content. The second part concerns the tour, with the aim of organising the exhibition in five different municipalities across Catalonia.
Production of a visual ethnography book: Creation, editing, and dissemination of a book combining visual ethnography methodologies with the life stories of peace agreement signatories in Colombia. The goal is to shed light on the challenges and hopes accompanying the reintegration process, while highlighting its transformative potential and commitment to peacebuilding. Fieldwork, support, and editing are carried out by the UdG research team.
University action laboratories: Co-design and implementation of four laboratories (two at the UdG and two at FLACSO-Ecuador) based on a study driven by the UdG’s Teaching Innovation Network on Human Rights, Peace and Sustainability (www.udg.edu/ca/ice/innovacio-docent/xarxes-dinnovacio-docent/xid-drets-humans-pau-i-sostenibilitat). Includes practical recommendations based on real-life cases and is enriched by a residency at the UdG for a peace agreement signatory.
Audiovisual contest on Human Rights, Peace and Sustainability: Organisation of the 1st contest for mobile-phone-produced audiovisual works focused on Human Rights, Peace, and Sustainability. Targeted at students from Catalan universities, with technical support from the Más Retina Association (https://xarxanet.org/entitat/mas-retina), an organisation dedicated to promoting global justice, peace, human rights, gender equality and development education.
A social documentary about peace agreement signatories and community leaders in a post-conflict context: One of the challenges in maintaining peace in Colombia is raising awareness regarding the contributions of peace agreement signatories and highlighting community-based strategies for defending peace. For this reason, and as part of the UdG team's research visits to Colombia—conducted in collaboration with IAP and the Más Retina Association—filming is underway for a documentary focused on narratives of resistance and the ancestral knowledge of peasant and indigenous communities.
Visit by a peace agreement signatory as part of the Peace Diploma programme: A two-month knowledge-exchange visit to the UdG by a peace agreement signatory who previously completed the Peace Diploma programme (an initiative of COBSEPAZ and the Universidad del Valle).
