Protection is peace

Guarantees for social leaders, signatories of peace and the implementation of the Peace Agreement in Colombia.

This project is funded by the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation and led by International Action For Peace; the working team comprises the University of Girona (UdG), the Conflict Management and Peacebuilding Observatory (COBSEPAZ), and the Más Retina Association.

This is the second phase of a project launched in 2024, aimed at contributing to peacebuilding at the local level and the protection of human rights in Colombia by strengthening community work and promoting initiatives for reconciliation and the fight against stigmatisation. The project focuses specifically on the protection of signatories to the Peace Agreement, human rights defenders, social leaders, and grassroots community organisations.

It lasts three years (January 2026 to December 2028) and its main objective is to contribute to community protection and the implementation of the Final Peace Agreement in Colombia. It is structured around various outcomes, including international accompaniment and the strengthening of the PAZES Observatory and peace signatories through specific actions such as a Peace Studies diploma course, a travelling photography exhibition, and the validation and implementation of the "Seguròmetre"—a community protection tool aimed at defending the rights of peace signatories. The project's various activities are described in greater detail in the description section.
