MIRS and IFROS Students Explore Girona: Team-Building Hike to Castell de Sant Miquel Students from the Master in Intelligent Robotic Systems (MIRS) and the Erasmus Mundus IFROS programme at the University of Girona combined their robotics studies with a team-building hike to Castell de Sant Miquel, strengthening their international community beyond the classroom. 16 d’abril 2026
On Friday, April 10th, students from the Master in Intelligent Robotic Systems (MIRS) and the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Intelligent Field Robotic Systems (IFROS) at the University of Girona (UdG), hosted at the Escola Politècnica Superior, took a well-deserved break from their academic routines to explore the natural beauty surrounding Girona. Accompanied by the academic coordinator Narcís Palomeras Rovira, the program manager Imma Güell Costa and some PhD students from the Underwater Vision and Robotics Research Centre (CIRS), the group set off on a scenic hike to the historic Castell de Sant Miquel.Located just outside the city, Sant Miquel is a beloved destination that rewards visitors with a sweeping panoramic view of the entire Girona region. The trail winds through lush forested paths, gradually revealing breathtaking vistas of rolling hills and the old town’s medieval skyline. On a particularly clear day, the group could even see the Mediterranean Sea on the horizon, with the Illes Medes visible in the distance. The ascent was as much a social experience as a physical one. Conversations flowed freely, laughter echoed through the trees, and students from different countries found common ground in the shared effort of the climb. By the time the group reached the summit, the sense of camaraderie was unmistakable.Events like this are a defining part of the MIRS and IFROS experience — creating space for the kind of informal connection between students and faculty that no classroom can replicate. The friendships formed here extend far beyond academic life. The day concluded in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where participants continued sharing conversations and enjoying time together after the hike. These moments are key to building the close-knit and international community that defines both programmes. We thank Narcís Palomeras and Imma Güell for joining the hike and making the day truly memorable. We are already looking forward to the next adventure! These initiatives reflect the commitment of the Escola Politècnica Superior (EPS UdG) to providing an international, hands-on learning environment in robotics and intelligent systems.
