Line of research: Statistical applications of CODA to science and the arts

In the fields of Science (Biology, Ecology, Medicine, Geology, Petrology, Chemistry, Economy, Geography, etc.)and of the Humanities (Psychology, Sociology, Education, etc.)it is usual to work with data vectors whose components represent the relative contribution of several parts in relation to a total (percentages, ppm...) giving rise to compositional samples. This research area is aimed at making progress in the applications specific to the compositional data's statistical analysis. The developed techniques’ range of application is very extensive. It has been confirmed, based on the academic J. Aitchison’s work in this field, from a strictly statistical perspective, that there is a lack of specific tools for making these statistical analyses. The usual statistical techniques (cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, factorial analysis, regression models etc.,) need to be adapted so they can be applied to the simplex (the compositional data’s support space).Because of all this, the research area's subject matter covers not just the application of statistical tools in these areas but also the development of the strictly statistical-mathematical aspects that these techniques are based on.The research area includes the design and development of specific software (CoDaPack) for analysing this type of data.
