Area of research: Social cognition

This research area intends to go in detail into one of the most characteristic aspects of human beings: the development of social cognition. One of the goals is to understand how certain linguistic acquisitions provide the basis for advanced social-cognitive skills, specifically the capacity to attribute mental states to others, what is called Theory of the Mind.We also aim to find out about the evolution and interrelationship of these aspects in development disorders.Another of the goals is centred on a deep examination of emotional development. To be more precise, we are interested in the capacity of children for understanding that emotions can be simulated and that this can have consequences in the beliefs of the others about emotions themselves. The methodology used in this area is as experimental (training studies) as it is correlational.
