How do I organise work groups?

It's very easy to organise students into groups. Your subject probably already has one or more enrolment group(s) created within it. You can, however, create as many groups as you like. Each student can also be in as many groups as required. You can organise groups into groupings, which will make various actions in the subject easier. Students themselves can also sign up to take part in one group or another.

This will allow you to create working groups and group activities. These activities have a double advantage:

  • Only one group member needs to deliver the task.
  • There will only be one task to assess for each group; the mark is the same for all group members.

Tip: Create groups only if you think you will need them for a group task or to communicate with just one group. If this is not the case, you don't need to create any groups.

Creating groups

Creating groups is easy. You can follow the instructions in this video to find out how to do it.

Students join a working group

Creating groups can sometimes be frustrating because each time you want to add students to a group, you are shown a full list of all students. There's a tool you can use to make this task easier: Choosing a group. Through this function, students can join a specific group based on invite you send them. If you would like to know how to create this activity, please watch this video.
