Animal Biology Research Group

  • Assessment of the effects on landscapes and wildlife of the controlled fires in the Pyrenees, in collaboration with the SIME of Prada de Conflent.

Evaluation and study of fishing resources

  • Evaluation of fisheries and advice for the recovery and maintenance of fishing stocks.
  • Environmental impact assessments (fluvial discharges, winds, etc) and studies on the impact of climate change on marine resources.
  • Monitoring of marine species of biological interest: changes in their geographical distribution and in their reproductive strategy and biological cycle
  • Monitoring of exploited marine resources in marine reserves
  • Studies on recreational fishing
  • Pilot tests of new nets.
  • Physiology and toxicology of commercial species: parasites, analysis of lipids, pollutants, DNA repair, histopathology, etc.

Advice to administrations and companies regarding fishing resources

  • Drafting fishing and marine management plans
  • Scientific advice in advisory boards, science councils, etc. on marine reserves, fisherman's guilds, etc.
  • Producing guides on sea creatures
  • Producing technical reports on the state of fishing resources
  • Producing technical reports and giving scientific advice to administrations for creating marine reserves.

  • Study and monitoring of the fauna in protected natural areas and threatened habitats.

  • Ant killer biocide efficacy testing service for companies

We also test theefficacy of ant killer biocide products under laboratory conditions and under field conditions, following the EU Biocidal Product Regulation (BPR) .

  • Atlas of Nesting Birds of Catalonia 1999-2002: Participation in the Scientific Committee, in field work and drafting texts.
