General information about official certificates and specific certificates

Official university degree

In accordance with Royal decree 1002/2010, the official university degrees in the Spanish education system are those of bachelor's degree, university master's degree or doctoral degree.

Official certificates are issued on paper in the two official languages (Catalan and Spanish), and have full validity from the date the studies corresponding to the certificate are completed.They are valid everywhere in the state and afford their holders the rights that come with them in each case.

Official university degrees contain the following information:

  • Personal details of the holder: name and surnames, place and date of birth and nationality.
  • Details of the qualification: name of the qualification, mention or mentions obtained, where applicable, date of completion of the studies and place and date of issue.
  • Legal causes that, if applicable, affect the validity of the certificate: death of the holder, issue of a duplicate etc.
  • Official keys of the certificate: codes corresponding to the university, to the centre, and to the number of university register, and number assigned by the National Register of Official University Degree Holders.
  • Signatures of the holder, the person in charge of the university's unit for official certificates and the rector.

After the certificate is collected, holder can request an authentic electronic copy, which has the same validity as the paper document.

Specific course certificates

In accordance with Royal decree 822/2021, universities can teach content that leads to certificates which are different to official university degrees, known as specific certificates.The issue of these certificates is carried out in the way that each university determines, and under no circumstances should the name or the format of these qualifications lead to any confusion with official university certificates.

The degrees currently issued by the University of Girona are the masters in lifelong learning, the diplomas in specialisation and the diplomas in expertise, which accredit holders have passed the respective syllabuses typical of lifelong learning taught by the University of Girona Foundation: Innovation and Education (FUdGIF).

Specific degrees are issued on paper and are in the two official languages (Catalan and Spanish).

European Diploma Supplement (SET)

The European Diploma Supplement (SET), regulated by Royal decree 22/2015, is the document that accompanies the official university degree and includes information on the studies completed in three languages (Catalan, Spanish and English) in order to facilitate international mobility of the holders.

The SET is requested and issued free of charge on paper, along with the graduate’s bachelor's degree, master's or doctoral degree certificates.Accompanying specific degrees are not issued.

In accordance with the aforementioned royal decree, the SET contains the following information:

  • Personal details of the holder: name and surnames, place and date of birth and identity number.
  • Data for the degree: name of the degree and of the certificate awarded for it, type (national or international), branch of knowledge, name of the institution awarding it, languages it is taught and assessed in.
  • Level of the certificate: corresponding level according to the Spanish Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (MECES) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), duration and access requirements.
  • Contents and results obtained: study modality, requirements and description of the programme (subjects taken, placements in companies, bachelor's thesis/master...),qualifications obtained and system of qualification.
  • Function of the qualification: access to later studies, goals of the degree and professional qualification (where applicable).
  • Additional information: extracurricular placements, credit transfer etc.
  • Certification of the supplement: date of issue, names and positions of the signatories and official stamp.
  • Information about the Spanish university system.

Provisional supplement certificate for the qualification

As established by Royal decree 1002/2010, once the application is made for the official certificate, the UdG issues the interested party a provisional supplement certificate in Catalan, Spanish and English that replaces the certificate and has the exact same value until the original is issued.This is valid for a year from its date of issue, a period which can be extended when for technical reasons the university has not been able to issue the certificate.

The supplment certificate is issued telematically in PDF format, with an electronic signature and secure verification code (SVC), and includes the essential data that have to appear on the corresponding certificate.

Personal academic certificate

All persons who have an academic transcript on record at the University of Girona can apply for and obtain, at any time, a personal academic certificate (CAP).The CAP is an official document certifying the status of the transcript (curriculum, overall average mark, degree syllabus requirements and, where appropriate, programme completion and diploma issuance dates).Academic certificates are issued in triplicate, in Catalan, Spanish and English, and are issued telematically in PDF format, with an electronic signature and secure verification code (SVC).

Certificates of permanent education

Passing a course of specialisation or a permanent education activity entitles the student to a certificate issued by the University of Girona Foundation: Innovation and Education (FUdGIF).The certificates are issued in the two official languages (Catalan and Spanish) by the FUdGIF.If the course has been taught in English, the certificate is sent in Catalan and English.

 

At the request of the interested person, the FUdGIF can issue academic certificates for the studies completed.The certificates are sent in Catalan or Spanish (according to the course completed).
