I studied Veterinary Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where I did my PhD at the Department of Animal Science, focusing on genetics of meat quality in pig. After that I got a position at the Biology Department of the Universitat de Girona, and I became a memeber of the Laboratori d'Ictiologia Genètica. My research focuses on the genetic architecture of complex traits of both domestic and wild species. These include metabolic traits in pig, the cavefish Astyanax mexicanus, and Gasterosteus aculeatus, pigmentation in domestic birds, as well as the development of molecular markers to be used in traceability and phylogeny of small domestic ruminants.
